memory
a media installation by anna anaka and luis miguel villarreal (2017)
“memory” is a visual exploration of how events in our lives impact our past, present and future.
sometimes we go through difficult events in our lives. as it is happening, it can seem like it is ensnaring us and there is no escape.
once we get past feeling trapped, we sometimes want to try and forget it ever happened, but it continually surrounds us.
at some point, no matter how difficult the event was while we were experiencing it, we realize it has shaped us and we can look at it through a different lens.
the event, within each film, is represented by a piece of white fabric, used as a visual motif.
the final presentation of this project was executed via rear projection onto three large screens, created from the fabric used in the film.
